Getting rid of your shredding

January is the month often associated with attempts to shed extra Christmas pounds, holiday plans for the year ahead and, if the finances allow, hitting the sales.

But it is also the time when the dreaded Christmas credit card bills and bank statements start dropping through the door.

After they have been dealt with the security conscious may opt to shred these documents, which is seen as the best way of stopping fraudsters getting hold of your personal information.

Contrary to popular belief, the remains of a shredding session can be recycled.

Residents in Croydon who benefit from the council's kerbside collection scheme can put their strips of waste paper straight into their green boxes.

The shredded documents can also be taken to any of the borough's recycling facilities, including the Factory Lane centre in Waddon and the Purley Oaks reuse and recycling centre in South Croydon - as well as at many smaller drop off points around Croydon.

Start the new year by shredding unwanted pounds

Open to both customers and the general public, this one day event aims to encourage everyone to protect their identity by shredding old documents containing personal information instead of throwing them out.
